Au Revoir, Joan King

Tom,

As a follow up to yesterday's posting, it looks like Joan King is about to retire and her last day at work will be on April 30th.

While Mrs. King is sipping cocktails in Palm Beach, her latest batch of lemmings can look forward to eeking out a living in Bloomberg hell:

"The Bloomberg gig is paying us $20 an hour to be a complete slave. Since the project doesn't make any sense, it's a 'race to the bottom' with the spiralling down salary. It's almost like a test as to how low can you go. But for law graduates they have big egos so some wear suits to the project and tell their friends and family they are 'attorneys'. Robert Half can play on this false ego trip of 'Juris Doctors' at law.

All reports are that business is completely dead in the Big Apple. The record number of New York bar passers last testing - over 90% - has flooded the already saturated market to over 100,000 lawyers. They are willing to do anything and to put up with any working conditions.

I applied to work at Target and Starbucks many times, but did not get hired. I figured that at least I would have a permanent job and some life and benefits. But neither I nor my friends ever got a job. Because the law school scam put us on the wrong track.

You can't talk people thinking of going to law school out of it. Even at $200k they still see it as a great path. But it's actually disqualifying them for a job at WALMART.

As for the agencies, EP Dine changed its name to 'The Dine Group', even though Dine cashed out and is sipping margaritas on some tropical island. One day in 2007 you walked in and they had a whole new management, with no explanation.

'Hudson' is appropriately named because it is like the sewer water in the Hudson River. They will tell you about how you are 'lucky to have any job' and tell you about appropriate attire and to re-do your resume.

As for the horrible recruiters they don't call as much these days since there is nothing to do and people cling on to the Bloomberg $20 an hour gig for dear life."

Associated Press (Brooklyn) - A desperate state of affairs played out this morning at the Brooklyn Law School. Dozens of uninsured students lay sick and dying in the filthy basement at the academic building at 250 Joralemon Street, as swine flu continued to wreak havoc around NYC neighborhoods. Covered in urine and fecal matter, one emaciated student lying under a pile of BarBri books that he claimed to have been using as toilet paper, gasped out choking on blood and vomit, "I tried to get out, but Sallie Mae dinged my credit and I wasn't able to afford a rental vehicle."

Civil discord broke out as marauding gangs from the Fulton Mall broke through the large iron gates at Brooklyn Law School and shot and decapitated dozens over a bottle of Advil. Riots broke out later in the day when Joan King and several law school administrators emerged from their specially guarded microbe isolation chamber on the 12th floor of the school and boarded a waiting helicopter.

wow, who the F cares about Brooklyn Law School?

by the way it looks like some projects are coming back, a few of the agencies have been active over the last few weeks...

It's not about BLS, you moron. BLS and Joan King are symbols for the legal educational establishment which play a large part in the creation of these sweatshops.

Anonymous said...

oh please, you're just mad you wont be able to blame your problems on some bag at a law school. what are YOU doing to combat the legal educational establishment?

My understanding is that for French speakers, one says "au revoir" when one expects/hopes to see the person again. When a farewell is more final, one says "Adieu".

So perhaps you'd care to retitle the post...[grin]

Coming Soon: Joan King II

I hope joan king enjoys her cushy Access Group funded retirement. I, for one, will never be able to afford retirement. I can hardly pay my rent, let alone pay my students loans or fund an IRA.

I DARE anyone to beat this wage, from my law school's job board:

Job Type: Part-time/Temporary
Employer: ---------
Division: N/A
Title: Researcher
Description: I am looking for someone to assist in a research project that involves the following situation:

Client signed an agreement to arbitrate disputes between himself and company "A", if any arose. Client, though not an employee of "A" was controlled by "A". He was a salesman whose compensation was based on commissions. "A" terminated the relationship and refused to pay the client for monies earned.

Client files suit in the Superior Court for various claims against "A", but does not reference a claim for non-payment of wages. Superior Court Judge dismisses the suit and orders that the "claims" be resolved by arbitration. Under the non-payment of wages statute, an employee must first obtain permission of the Attorney General's office before filing a lawsuit against an employer.

Client decides to obtain the AG's consent; received the consent; and has recently filed a suit in another Superior Court, seeking damages under the non-payment of wages statute.

I expect that "A" will seek to have the case dismissed based upon the previous Judge's ruling, notwithstanding:
1. Non-payment of wages claim was not previously presented
2. The AG's office had to first give its consent to filing a lawsuit, which had not been done in the first lawsuit.

I want to be ready to oppose "A"'s attempt to get the new lawsuit dismissed. I will be looking for a memorandum/opposition that will oppose any attempt to dismiss this new lawsuit.

Compensation will be at $15.00 per hour. I expect 15 hours should be sufficient amount of time.

It seems that during a period in April, there was a small spurt, by the agencies, of resume gathering for DC at craigslist, careerbuilder, etc. Anybody know of anything positive coming out of this?

Anyone taking bets on which project will see masses of coders dying of swine flu first?

Anonymous said...

The one starting next week in Mexico City. Pay rate is $150 an hour.

Anonymous said...

An OP like that would run him 5k at my firm, maybe more, and this guy wants it for $225! HA!

Anonymous said...

8:18 PM

For every doc reviewer that succumbs to the swine flu, there will be ten to take his place!

The project WILL be completed!

Fire the whole batch!
Hudson will bring in some cheaper, more desparate pigs lawyers.
