Barasso/Deloitte

Looks like Barasso/Deloitte, the most infamous NJ sweatshop, is hiring again. Only now they are demanding 3-5 years of pharmaceutical drafting experience for the $29 an hour shitrate to churn docs in that miserable boiler room in Westfield.

Coders beware- the agencies often advertise this shit-gig on craigslist as Cranford NJ or Union NJ in a classic "bait and switch" since good old Barasso has such a notoriously bad reputation. They run this gig just like a factory- you literally all have to shut your computers down at once for mandatory breaks (which are unpaid of course.) No health or dental either and 1160 a week gross- a single guy or gal will bring home about 800 a week on this gig. I can't resist pointing out that that's 8000 less a year than a fucking NYC garbage man.

Plus the garbage man gets full health benefits, paid vacation/sick leave, dental, and other perks. Anyone still defending the law as a "career" has to be mentally ill and/or clinically insane. Just think: 4 years of undergrad, the LSAT, the first-year stress of finals, the hours studying and memorizing shitlaw, the 100 K + in loans, the Barbri hazing, the exam itself, and 5 years in the trenches drafting pharma shitpaper to earn significantly less than a high-school dropout garbage man!

It's beyond sad

Yesterday I got a call from Robert Half. What a surprise. After going through a laundry list of requirements for a "big client" the recruiter asked what was the minimal amount I would take. Then she completely ignored my answer and said the gig was paying $20 for a 8 to 5 shift. The conversation got a little heated because she did not understand why I was so shocked. She said that a lot of people are taking the gig. I am on the verge of foreclosure, but I still would not entertain the offer. I hope no one gives her the satisfaction of getting JDs for drop out wages.

That's $800 a week with no benefits.

Can anyone hear the giant sucking sound? It's the legal profession going down the tubes.

dude if you really are on the verge of foreclosure, get over yourself and take anything.

whats more important your pride or your house?

800 a week will not put a dent in my mortgage. After taxes, train fare, babysitter and other expenses-- I am better off with unemployment. It is not a matter of pride. It is dumb move to get stuck someplace to clear an extra 100 a week. I can make that 100 by doing sidework at home.

It would also put your unemployment at risk. If dumb ass employer fires you and then ties up your claim, you could be making ZERO a week while your claim is being resolved.

Damn it- I've been duped! I applied to a Cranford posting for this shit gig. Thank god I haven't heard back

The garbage man belongs to a union.

this is definitely a shit gig, but is there anything else going on? I know of a few people who are working, but a lot more who aren't. A couple of my recruiters [different agencies] went on vacation last week. Is there some sort of mandatory furlough going on at the agencies to save money?

Your mother pays you $100 for making your bed and cleaning your room?

With that ethic, maybe once you'll develop enough work ethic to become a "fucking" garbageman. Or anything where you are actually willing to work hard to do a job that has value to someone else. At least you can troll around and leer at him from inside your house as you see him come pick up your trash. That fucking garbageman piece of shit. That FUCKING garbageman!

the garbageman is BRITISH! GET HIM!!

Anonymous said...

damn- Brits, Indians, women, Nigerians, blacks...who ISN't bait for hate on this blog?

If this is how you deal with bad times, you deserve the shit-hole you're in.

I really have a problem with people who fart in public.

Then don't submit for the Bag o' Gasso project. It stinks!

I was told that Robert Half in DC were not even staffing attorneys right not, only unlicensed JD's and Paralegals. Their job postings are only for milling resumes to make it look like they have something to offer to possible clients!

One other thing for job seekers to remember, Robert Half Legal associates have many different criteria that they need to reach every week. One of these items is an interview quota. Consequently, they will call you up for an interview, make you put on your nicest suit, make you drive to their downtown location, pay $12 for parking, and waste an hour of your time just to help them make their quota. Stay away!!

I also was told of a $20/hr job by Robert Half. That's simply not worth getting out of bed. That may sound arrogant or insulting to many hard working people who get paid a lot less, but my thinking is a potential employer who would offer so little would be pretty horrible to work for. Another poster made an excellent point about jeapordizing unemployment benefits. Seriously, this "profession" has one foot in the grave. I advise almost anyone who asks to think seriously about going to law school. For most it will not be worth the cost.

11:11- Well, yeah, but that's the case for ALL agencies.

12:04-

On that same note, I actually saw a kid at B&N flipping through, like, 20 books on "Best Law schools in the country." I was soooo tempted to go up to him and say, stay away from this Satan-profession. But he looked so eager at the idea of being a lawyer (wtf?) I just couldn't do it.

Where is Tom getting his source from? "3-5 years of pharmaceutical drafting experience" is erroneous.

how much to garbage men earn in NYC then is it that well paid?

I am currently working for the Robert Half gig for $20 an hour. It's being a temporary legal analyst for Bloomberg. The job is hell... there are hundreds of us working in this place, and every weekend they fire massive amounts of people for what appears to be for the fun of it.

Anonymous said...

When I was at Barrasshole, they never made us shut down the computers during the break. The rest is mostly true. The money's certainly lower than they used to pay, but overall the people aren't so bad.

Just stay away from the doofy large guy who oogles the women or the angry, red-faced, acne-scarred ivy leaguer and you should be mostly ok. A lot of the other managers are nice people who aren't that difficult to deal with as long as you do your job.

Barrasso had been operating, for many years, with offices in Westfield and India. Then, last year, Deloitte came in and bought the whole business. I'm sure they saw the India connection as a cash cow. I'd imagine that by now, the India office is much larger than the Westfield one. I don't understand how AMerican attorneys (at firms, corporations, law schools) have just stood by and let this happen! There should have been lawsuits filed at the inception against the unauthorized practice of law outside the USA. And law review articles, etc. But there's been nothing. And the ABA -- don't even get me started!

Anonymous said...

The US offices are pretty much in charge of correcting/spot checking the AWFUL AWFUL poor quality of the indian workers.

Is it really that bad? I just spoke to a RHI agent about the $29 job in Westfield.
