The Sullivan & Cromwell Insane Asylum

"Now I know everyone has a favorite nick name for Albanian the Anus: ladka, Balki, wild & crazy guy, but as a member of the ESL (English as a Second Language) set he is part of the inner-sanctum at Sullivan & Cromwell. So much so that a 10k phone bill Ennus racked up in the United Kingdom to call the US to bore and confuse his coworkers or exchange animal husbandry tips with his close relatives was hidden by Pary Garchment. But what Gary could not cover up was his rank incompetence in which he lost....irretrievably terrabytes of BP documentation. Apparently they sent MF like Martin sheen in appocalypse now to relieve him of his command.

Point of order stop calling the ladies of S&C "Big Mama" it is quasi racist and not specific enough since S&C likes its underlings fat, female & affirmitive action. Next week I will tell you about either: Cokie Lopez the addicted associate, the porny paralegal & the stairwell vidoetape that Fave Digaro tried really hard not to see."

"its underling hires fat, female & affirmitive action."

Again the conservatism of this site is amazing. The above comment is a back handed form of bigotry. Anyone working at the firm who is black is there under "affirmative action."

Yet, in the prior diary, you were whining unemployment. You know other employed conservatives think you are unemployed because you are fat and lazy. So, if you are going to trade in bigotry, at least don't whine when it comes back to reflect on you and what benefits Congress is willing to give you. You can't have it both ways. It just makes you sound like hypocrites.

I know you will try to have it both ways regardless of what I just wrote. But, you really don't come across as sympathetic. If, for no other reasons than marketing your plight to others, you may wan to leave the bigotry at the door.

Right, 11:39. Like the Democrats care so much about the poor and minorities. If I remember correctly, it is Harry Reid who is dragging his heels in refusing to bring the unemployment extensions to the floor. Millions are suffering because Reid is playing hardball and using the unemployed as pawns to pass through his giant oink oink pork bill.

Bigotry is people yelling racism on projects to avoid being let go for being unaccountable, totally useless, and not doing any work.

Every business should promote the goals of diversity and inclusion, as mine does - but this does not include hiring the lazy, incompetent or even fat, so those comments aren't out of line.

In Albany today, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner called on the legislature to quickly act on Governor Paterson’s reforms to the state’s unemployment insurance system.

“We have a choice,” she said. “We can do nothing, or we can do the right thing and fix the system. We’ve been talking about this for a couple of years and the time to act is now. I’m hopeful they’ll introduce the legislation today.”

The changes are designed to fix an insolvent system, increase the weekly benefit, reduce the burden on employers over the long term and stiffen penalties for people who try to game the system – all while bringing the system in line with other states.

While these changes will be funded by an increase in employer contributions, the overall net effect will be little or no increase over the long term because the changes will reduce or eliminate the need for additional taxes to prop up the current, insolvent system.

Right now, hundreds of thousands of unemployed New Yorkers are struggling to feed families, pay bills, and seek a new job on less than one-third of the state’s average weekly wage; not an easy task, “ when there are five applicants for every job,” said Gardner.

More than 1.3 million laid-off workers won't get their unemployment benefits reinstated before Congress goes on a weeklong break for Independence Day.

And hundreds of thousands more will lose their benefits in the coming weeks.

The House voted 270-153 Thursday to extend jobless benefits for people who have been laid off for long stretches, but the gesture was made futile by the Senate's inability to pass the bill. For the third time in as many weeks, Republicans in the Senate successfully filibustered a similar measure Wednesday night before senators adjourned for vacation.

A little more than 1.3 million people have already lost benefits since the last extension ran out at the end of May, according to the Labor Department. By the end of the week, the number will jump to 1.7 million. By the end of July, it would top 3 million.

"It is hard to understand how anybody can come to this floor and say, for 1.7 million people and their families, this is not an emergency," said Rep. Sander Levin, D-Mich., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. "There is no excuse for voting no."

The bill would extend unemployment payments for up to a total of 99 weeks, for people whose state-paid benefits have run out. The benefits would be available through the end of November, at a cost of $33.9 billion. The money would have been borrowed, adding to the budget deficit.

The payments average a little more than $300 a week.

Republicans, tapping into voter anger about the growing national debt, said they would support extending the benefits if the bill was paid for. They proposed using unspent money from President Barack Obama's massive 2009 economic recovery package.

Democrats rejected the offer, saying the money was needed for jobs programs. Republicans said the stimulus package included plenty of lawmakers' pet projects that could be cut to cover the unemployment benefits.

"Americans are not receiving their unemployment checks because Democrats refuse to pay for these benefits at a time of record federal deficits," said Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, the top Republican on the Ways and Means Committee.

A times, Thursday's debate grew heated, as lawmakers prepared to face unemployed voters back in their districts during the weeklong break.

"I challenge you to look people in the eye and tell them that you voted no," said Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga. "Tell them as they swallow their pride that you don't care, that you don't have a heart, that you don't have any feeling."

Lewis' booming voice rang throughout the House chamber, but his real audience, Republicans in the Senate, had already adjourned for their holiday break.

Camp said Republicans in both chambers empathize with laid-off workers but simply want to pay for the benefits instead of adding to the national debt.

"We could pass this bill with broad bipartisan support if Democrats would just agree to pay for the spending," Camp said. "The American people know we must pay for this spending, and the Senate appears to have heard that message."

The measure stands a better chance of passing the Senate after a replacement is named for Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., who died Monday. The measure fell two votes short of the 60 needed to advance Wednesday night, but only because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a supporter of the bill, voted "nay" to take a procedural step that would allow for a revote.

"We will vote on this measure again once there is a replacement named for the late Senator Byrd," Reid said.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, will choose Byrd's successor.

Unemployment benefits are creating jobs faster than practically any other program, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday.

Talking to reporters, the House speaker was defending a jobless benefits extension against those who say it gives recipients little incentive to work. By her reasoning, those checks are helping give somebody a job.

"It injects demand into the economy," Pelosi said, arguing that when families have money to spend it keeps the economy churning. "It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name."

Pelosi said the aid has the "double benefit" of helping those who lost their jobs and acting as a "job creator" on the side.

"It's impossible to think of a situation where we would have a country that would say we're not going to have unemployment benefits," Pelosi said.

Democrats have been trying for more than a month to pass a bill extending jobless benefits to more than 1 million people. Currently, jobless benefits last nearly two years -- up to 26 weeks paid by state treasuries with federal help for up to an additional 73 weeks.

Of course, those workers could be sending a lot more money into the economy if they had jobs since unemployment benefits generally do not cover the entire cost of lost wages.

The counterintuitive statement drew jeers from Republicans, who claim Democrats can't figure out any way to tackle the economic slump that doesn't involve spending massive amounts of taxpayer money.

"No plan to create jobs -- just more stimulus spending," House Republican Leader John Boehner said at a dueling press conference.

Despite the wave of unemployment aid and stimulus spending dating back to the end of the Bush administration, the jobless rate is still hovering close to 10 percent. New figures out Thursday showed new jobless benefits claims rising for the second time in three weeks.

Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., on Thursday called the newest extension plan "fiscal insanity" because it is not paid for and will only create future problems.

"I support, and Republicans have supported, extending unemployment benefits, but we must not do so at a cost to the deficit, to the economy and to future generations. Our inability to get our fiscal house in order isn't just damaging future generations; it is wreaking havoc on jobs today," he said in a statement.

Pelosi criticized Republicans Thursday, saying she's still optimistic the bill will pass though it failed again in the Senate Wednesday night.

I kinda wonder what sort of jobs are being created. I remember I spent about 3 months last year doing jack and was only buying the cheapest of food items, maybe a newpaper and very little else. So the only jobs that were being created or saved were jobs that Americans simply will not do for the pay being offered.

My friend is a Villanova Law grad 'O8 who can't find a job with a firm in this tight market because he graduated in the bottom half of his class. But paralegals here in the DC area can make $90K plus. So he's gone the stealth route, and is now in a para program at a major unibersity here. He plans on striking the JD from his resume and applying to para jobs...

There are many quotes that keeps surgeon inspired about his job, they also help him jump these large obstacles in life, here are a few:-

"At 10, I was intrigued by surgery, I wanted to be surgeon for a long time. I love doctor shows and surgery shows. Blood is not an issue for me. I even took pictures once of me getting my blood taken. "

"Dr.Babanga, my local doctor, recommended that I should try superflex before and after breakfast"

"Humanity abhors, above all things, a vacuum in itself, and your class will be cut off from humanity as surgeon cuts the cancer and alien growth from the body. "

There are fat, lazy people of all races and sexes. For all too long, white men were allowed to be fat, lazy, and racist. Blacks and women couldn't compete against them.

Now, yelling affirmative action when a certain percentage of blacks are more qualified and smarter then you is funny.

On projects, agency representatives and firms often put a large percentage of whites on the priv or second review team knowing they can protect these white lawyers when cuts occur.

On one project I was on, it was so obvious, even the totally clueless saw the racism.
