Last weekend the bathrooms overflowed at Sullivan & Cromwell in the basement, level C1. Someone reported it but nobody paid attention. The smell was just like it is in an open sewer.
It will be nice to write a story about the horrors at that place, but most importantly to warn people of all the issues in there: basement offices without windows; a true monitoring system with the id card everywhere you move; moody and despotic case managers; very long hours and bait and switch games with the hours; lifers (people who have been at SC forever and resent newcomers); the cafeteria food; the beautiful plaza outside and the seaport....a mix bag of things."

I have worked with the so-called "Tom (not really named Tom)the Temp," and I have never seen a more distractable worker, not ever. He was really smart--don't get me wrong--a genius, very interesting. As far as "life" is concerned, he deserves so much more. As far as Tom's current employers--they deserve so much more. Tom the T was the least productive worker I have ever seen at anything. He would have been the first evicted from Trump's "The apprentice." Unanimous call--maybe they would have kept him around for "good tv," but he was an absolute disaster. Not a worker, maybe a boss, but couldn't we all.
Big cut in a project at Sidley three levels under the street in Rockefeller Center before the holiday. "Bendher" the clueless associate in charge kept a bunch of slackers while letting go the most diligent workers. The most egregious example was the retention of the bs artist from Brown who did nothing but kiss ass and mouth off about Obama all day. You are a fraud and Bendher may not know it, but you know what you are.
Funny that TTT is finally getting turned on. What TOOK you guys so long? He's a conspiracy theorist who writes these grand "let's start a revolution" stories, but who is too shy and scared to ever stand up for anything in person. Hypocrite.
TTT has done a lot of good with this blog. Heck, it got mentioned prominently in Barbara Ehrenreich's book. That's exposure. And a recruiter just mentioned to me the other day that he keeps an eye on it, not so much to do a better job as to make sure that his agency doesn't get lumped in with the E. P. Dine's and Hudson's of the world.

I knew a guy who worked with TTT on a project (the Anita project, actually). He said that a lot of what TTT wrote was either untrue or an exaggeration. Still, he could laugh at TTT's writing, some of which was funny.

9:36, I can't speak of the specifics of course because I wasn't on that project (or at least I don't know which project it was). But can you really doubt that what he says is generally true? I'm working in a packed, sweltering room with no windows or air. One guy walked out yesterday, some are talking about doing it today, but I need the money, so I stay to repay school loans that have turned out to be worthless. Honestly, I'm thinking of defaulting. If homeowners can do it, why can't we!

Um, I was on that project also, and a lot of what was written was dead on.
Tom was so mad at me about three years ago when we worked for Anita. Anita kept a well-stocked refrigerator, and I was eating burritos for about three hours straight (about six burritoes, while clicking). After drinking a few cups of coffee during a break, I went to the toilet and dropped one log for about five minutes, and it was the size of a 10 pound bass I have caught. There was no way it would flush, and Tom complained when the whole building smelled like my colon.

Freelancing legal services is the way to go; cut out the law firm, post a CL ad advertising your license (and areas you know something about) & get responses. You don't have to mention experience levels--just work on getting responses. At least you'd be doing something w/your licenses & forming your own rep (perhaps get cred for taking on the impossible) instead of being known as "that pack of whiners".
Too many lawyers. Not enough jobs. NYC is more expensive than it has ever been. Rents are too high. Debt is too crippling.
