"L4L,
Just wanted you to know that I heard a sad rumor that a contract attorney passed away on the downtown NYC Juristaff gig. I am not aware of what caused the death at this point, but was told that for whatever reason he wasn't able to seek out medical attention soon enough. At this time, I have no information as to the identity of this individual. I will keep you posted if I learn anything else."

Is this the $23/hour with the $7 hour bonus retention project?????? He probably couldn't afford health care. God rest his soul.
That is extremely sad. And why am I not surprised. I am shocked that I did not die myself in those sweatshop bowels.I pray for the deceased and his family.
There are times I thought I would die at the sight of a nasty and angry Big Mamma lunbering towards me. Even perefectly healthy people can get heart attacks seeing some of the ghetto thug supervisors coming towards them. These dungeons and the dungeon masters are so scary and the work conditions so abysmal and Dickensian I am suprised more coders have not passed away. God Bless the departed and those still living in this hell...
I would say the mortality rate of your average contract attorney is pretty high. Forced to sit on your behind 70 hours a week, having to eat fatty take out everynight because you don't have time to cook in, the lack of health insurance, the alcoholism, etc, etc. It's a sad, depressing existence.
And what about seeing the ugly nasty faces of your ghetto "supervisors" - that is equally demoralising and has personally caused me many ailments. If working with such hideous and mean thugs is all there is in my future I wish for an early death.
Poor soul. RIP.
45,000 people will die this year due to insufficient/lack of coverage. Thanks a lot, Joe Loserman.
This is not the first time this happened. Tom reported about a similar incident a year or two back.
I wonder what actually happened here.
From what I remember on this site, 2 people died for health reasons, and one person was murdered.
Although I am not dead yet - I have acquired many physical and mental problems from the sweatshop industry. Consumption being one of them. I recently travelled to a shit hole third world country where many people congregated around me after finding out I was from the US of A. They all looked up to me like a demi-God and asked me to relate stories of life in that land of gold and sunshine. What could I say - I am no better than many of you???
I call upon Father Eamon to offer us some solace in a time of need.
I used to watch Big Mamma stuff her face with fried chicken lard gruel. The most unhealthy beasts you will ever see inhabit that basement.
If anyone should have keeled over it should have been that grotesque beast - Big Lard Ass Mamma.
Joe Loserman needs a good ass-whopping on his mealy saggy orthodox ass. I could easily take care of this wussy if he came near me but when will that happen? I hope someone in his family dies without insurance.
How is he so religious and yet denying people health insurance?
The tide will turn. Any inhouse attorneys out there should reach out to GC's or their outside counsels to request better working conditions and a request that our fellow professionals be treated with dignity. As a former temp and now an inhouse counsel, let me be the first to say that there should be a call for action.
Can this blog get anymore depressing?
Screw it, we don't to have better conditions. Nope, just send it off to India! No OSHA requirements, anti-discrimination laws, environmental regulations, US Labor laws or other impediments.
Just offhsore it, baby! It's cheap and easy and requires not conscience or thinking, Yeah!
We've updated our site at http://www.tempinfo.com/joomla/.
More links to agencies and useful articles for temps.
Thanks for the Tempinfo blog. FYI, the header has a misspelling - "Business Intellegince"
lol, okay thanks for the edit.
Big Momma done lied to us! Project is over Monday!
First, as a fan of Tom the Temp - let me say no other site can be as much fun - so TempInfo unless you put some really meaty stories on your site ...YAWN.
Second, Tom the Temp your blog pictures used to be hilarious and half the fun of the post. What the hell happened in the last few posts - dull pictures. Kindly return to your previous pictorial editing...
Anyone know the name of the person who died?
I've been a doc reviewer for a while and am wondering if I worked with him/her.
To lighten things up, what about the news this week that the biglaw golden child who forged the law school transcript won't be disbarred. This is just like the incident with the associate who wasn't disbarred after trying to meet that young underaged girl for sex at the Long Island Railroad station, or that perv partner who had young prostitutes meet him in his secret Astor Place hideaway. I guess if you are a golden child you can do wrong, and if you are struggling non biglaw type you can either die right there in the coding room, or get disbarred for not paying for your CLE.
This is ridiculous - there are people who cannot get barred because they have too much debt while felons have been admitted. And yes, then all these previously barred people fingering children and hos and no disbarrment.
WHAT THE FUCK????Is it worse to have loans than molest someone??????

More shilling from the LPO industry. It's not just for doc review anymore!
And more depressing news...for many temping is to become the new normal.

I recall back in the Newark project one night some pregnant lady went into the bathroom not feeling well passed out and wound up losing her baby there. I think she got cut from the job as well.
true story
I heard tell that associates at biglaw firms can actually go see a doctor in an office for something called a "check-up" and receive medical care year round not just in the event they go to emergency room for frostbite.
This is very very sad indeed....the stress of living off of contract attorney jobs, when facing many personal financial issues at home, is overwhelming. Things must have been so horrible for this poor soul that he couldn't even afford to stay home, or alternatively, things at home facing him/her were so horrendous, it was just better to work a lousy contract gig. Pray for him/her. I certainly hope the response of those around him/her was compassionate and that both the staffing agency and the "client" went out of their way to "take care of things". Reason stating this is bc/ there was a horrible incident at McCarter & English years back where a contract attorney literally was dying on the job, and they refused to call an ambulance......this type of treatment of people by staffing agencies and their client has got to stop. I've seen cases where long-time contract attorneys dies, and the recruiter didn't both attending their funeral, but boy they were happy to make the buck of their back as long as they were alive and still "clicking".Most of them (staffing agency recruiters) are mere cockroaches, with no regards for those off of whom they make their commission and weekly salary.
Typical - biglaw lawyers can basically do anything they like and never be disbarred, but everyone else is out on their ear - typical double standard.
I worked with him on the $23/hour project. Very nice person. It was a shock to all of us to learn of his passing away. He was ill for about a week and couldn't afford to go see a doctor. A week later, we learn that he passed away. Very very sad. Hard to comprehend.
R.I.P. Richard.
For the person asking about the deceased his name was Richard Munroe. Very nice guy. RIP.
