More Solo Cheerleader Shysters

Look at what I received from the State of Texas Bar "job agent" today (below). Looks like there is a huge proliferation of shysters trying to make money off the unemployed by setting you up as a "solo." LOL!

"Job description:

We work directly with the Placement Centers of many of the State and Local Bar Associations across the nation. It is our common goal to help our members develop their careers and income through placement and counseling services. As you can imagine with this slowing economy, there are many incredibly qualified and talented attorneys seeking career assistance. Whether you are a recent law graduate, associate, or former partner; law firms are making it very clear that unless you can bring a considerable book of business with you, the chances of the firm extending an offer is greatly reduced until the economy improves greatly. So what do you do until then?

- Quit practicing law?
- Just keep looking until the economy improves?
- Build your Book of Business as you continue your search

For an attorney, "quitting" is never an option and unless you have deep resources, waiting 8-24 months for the economy to turn might not be economically feasible either. We believe the most important and successful approach for your career is to develop your own book of business (working) while you continue your search and to keep your resumes work history active as an attorney. This means "Going Solo" and establishing your law practice while you search. That might sound a little scary, lonely and perhaps even costly to most attorneys coming from an established firm, but it doesn't have to be if you go about it the right way.

We would like to recommend a new and cost effective solution for attorneys who are looking to "Go Solo" as an interim solution to their employment situation. It is GoSoloEsq.com.

GoSoloEsq.com provides attorneys with the ability to establish a Solo Practice and complete Virtual Law Office for as little as $129 a month. That includes the Virtual services, Office services, and Networking services. Below is a list of included services:

- Virtual Law Office (available in over 400 US cities)
- Professional address, call/mail center, client meeting rooms (all while working from home)
- Access to client meeting rooms as needed on an hourly basis
- Free meeting room office vouchers valued at $1,100
- "Lawyer to Lawyer" Case Referral (receive or refer with fee sharing)
- Mentoring Services (ask or offer your services to other members)
- Contract Attorney Work (take on contract work while you grow your client base)
- Ask The Experts Forum (interact with other solo attorneys by topic or specific area of law)
- Access to virtual or onsite staff (paralegals, legal secretaries, word processors)
- Online links to state forms, practice forms, templates and tools

* We guarantee you will receive referrals from the service each month or membership is free.

Click here for a full review of their services!

We understand that this might not be a solution for everyone during their employment transition, but if you find yourself contemplating "quitting" or "waiting" then at least take a look at what we have to offer. You might find "Going Solo" is just what you need to keep your career fresh, your talents sharp, your work history active, your employment value high, and your cash flow positive.

Take a moment to visit us at www.gosoloesq.com and see why "Going Solo" no longer means "Going it Alone."

When times are tough, the charlatans and carpet baggers come out like locusts. Watch your wallets!

I've seen this ad. No doubt proffered by some industrious ex-BIGLAW and/or ex-State Penitentiary inhabitants. Anyone falling for this ruse, frankly, has it coming.

The woman in the picture is Susan Cartier Liebel.

Another sleazy unhelpful sales pitch from a state bar.

The New York Bar, the Happy Hooker of the Bar associations, is also offering a placement and career planning service.

Best advice is to move to Nigeria and get a tan, and try to slop up the black quota here.

Alexis Martin Neely and Susan Cartier Liebel do not practice law anymore. Would you give up a great and lucrative solo practice to beocome a "solo marketer" cheerleader????? Come on. Think about it.

Right, that's exactly what I pointed out in an earlier post. because I can't succeed as a lawyer let me go teach other...WHAT THE FUCK??

And a couple of people on their faculty - the PR HACKS - don't have ANY law experience. They are just PR hacks who managed to survive at some big name networks as PEONS and now claim they are Journalists!! Ha, ha, they did not do any reporting, or research!! They photocopied, swept the floors, bought the anchors their transcripts and coffee. Journalists my ass!!!

I'm not sure I should admit this, but I registered with them (runs for a fox hole).

Call me stupid (actually, please don't), but I actually like the concept and services they are offering. Membership is still small, but if you're tired of complaining about crummy pay as a temp attorney (I know I am), then this is a pretty low cost way to hang your shingle and get your attorney career started (while I keep taking low paying contract work). :)

They have negotiated some pretty good discounts with Regus (their virtual office provider partner) and membership even includes $1000 in meeting room vouchers for me to use when meeting clients in any of their 400 office locations.

The "network' side of things is still weak (I think they just got started at the end of August), but the lawyer to lawyer case referral, mentor/mentoring program, and member to member freelance/contract work referral have some good potential if they can build their membership enough (I'm actually feeling less and less stupid the more I type). :)

I think the clicher for me was the 3 Month Intro Membership that gaurantees that if I do not receive any referrals during a month, that I do not pay for the service that month.

As they say, the proofs in the pudding, but the $35 was not that big of an investment for the benefits gained above.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

I think I'll climb out of my fox hole now.

For what it's worth, Carolyn Elefant (of myshingle.com) is pretty spitting mad @ gosoloesq.com for stealing her copyrighted work product and passing it on as their own for their own profit. Here is the link ...

Make of that what you will.

It is now 2012....any feedback on how well this worked for you? Alexis Neely (who I met about 2009 at an ABA luncheon during Young Lawyers conference) emails me constant teasers about her ever-developing programs. I'm still asking myself if it's really worth anything but I suspect the answer is no.

BUT....the marketing and jingles in her advertising keeps me from unsubscribing! I keep thinking perhaps there is something to get me more organized and get my practice running better but the cost appears as though it would be better spent on hiring a paralegal or law clerk! So I still haven't unsubscribed even though I am now Lisa in her emails, not Linda as originally subscribed.
