Carol Fritz

The jobs are awful, the student loans are crushing, the basements are dank, the temp agencies are bloodsucking vampires, and the American economy is crumbling, but at least you can count on your fellow coder mules to back you up. NOT!

http://www.cfritzlaw.com/

It puzzles me why this woman would try to facilitate the outsourcing of her own job to India:

"Now, in addition to outsourcing discovery work to me, firms have access to a whole team of Indian attorneys who are highly trained in U.S. law for legal research and litigation support. It fits with my commitment to making law more efficient and more economical."

My favorite part of her blog, however, comes from her testimonial section:

"Her fee was reasonable, and we paid no overhead or benefits. I would definitely hire her again."

Wonderful. The pride and fighting spirit of the American worker is alive and well.

I need to get out of temping for real. It's just that the money is so good. I wonder how long this nirvana is going to last? And yes, I am one of those people who really doesn't have a problem with the agencies (Except E.P.Slime and an unfortunate episode with a with-held paycheck). Anyhow, any ideas how soon before India takes all the jobs? I know when I call my bank or credit card companies, it usually gets routed to India :(

I see some wasted Ivy degrees and one from Temple and a woman who is silusional. Sad. Pathetic.

The jobs are already flooding into India. The market has been eerily quiet lately.

Anonymous said...

Ivy degrees don't mean shit anymore. My friend graduated from Cornell and is still working in Starbucks.

I loveThe Champion of Complex Discovery how she calls herself the "e-discovery champion".

Isn't that a violation of legal advertising laws?

What a sleeeaze.

If anyone really wants to start a union or association, email me at unionlawyer1@yahoo.com. I'll be able to see if there is any interest or if two people want to. I'll post how many people responded.

1:57 is Update! They want to see who has been reading this site.

Anyone here does doc review in Southern CA? Couldn't land a gig in the last 2 months. Wondering if this is related to that whole India thing I've been hearing about lately.

Anonymous said...

5:50 - I am under the impression that most doc review work is concentrated in DC and NYC. I am in DC working in government but have friends who are working full time in doc review 65 hours/ week. I tried to get doc review in Houston a couple of years ago and it was completely dry. At that time, I was told by someone at Update that they had 1800 people registered locally in Houston who were not actively working on projects.

Anonymous said...

DC does a lot more to protect members of its bar than NYC does. You actually need to be DC barred before working on a project there.

Unlike NYC, the temp cesspool, where anything goes.

You rule. Also, T. The Tampax, by saying stuff like this:
"The pride and fighting spirit of the American worker is alive and well."

fails to come to terms with globilization. Globalization, Bitches!!!!

Thats it. I am not eating in anymore Indian restaurants.

do they pay her extra to hide important documents?

NYC has had a lot of projects lately. It was a busy summer.

Anonymous said...

Ya unless you work in D.C. or NYC your'e toast. I work in NYC but registered with Boston a few months ago (Since I'm from there) and never ever ever got one single phone call for a job.

Hopefully all the curry-stinking dot-heads won't take these wonderful NYC gigs!

Anonymous said...

The manager of the LPO said no need to worry about outsourcing, as their are TONS of doc. review jobs that people here aren't willing to do. I think the people in Boston, Texas, and Ohio would beg to differ.

If they're so "highly trained in U.S. law," why not come here on a student visa, get an LL.M and make some real money? Oh, wait--it's because they're the Indian equivalent of TTTers and couldn't make it in the big time anymore than their domestic counterparts.

Anonymous said...

They don't need to do anything of the sort. They can stay in their home country and get a 2 week crash course in US law and start taking American jobs.

They don't need LLMs or JDs and they don't need to take some silly bar exam to practice US law.

They've got it made!

Anonymous said...

Where's that agency douchebag "Top 10 Law Grad" from a couple of posts ago? He needs to be educated as to why the temps hate him and the other agency assholes so much- surprisingly, he can't figure this out on his own.

Anonymous said...

Anon asked: "If they're so "highly trained in U.S. law," why not come here on a student visa, get an LL.M and make some real money?"

Answer: there are any number of reasons for them not to do this. First, they may not wish to become a student again, incur student loans, and lose time they could be productively employed. Second, there are any number of reasons that they may not wish to, or be able to, come to the US, ranging from family obligations to inability to get a visa (not so easy, you know). Besmirching these people is unwarranted and displays an ignorance of the facts.

How they being "besmirched" anymore than American TTTers? India has losers just like every country has losers. Their winners in the legal field do what all winners in the legal field--migrate to the highest paying opportunities. Their losers do what all losers do--take what they can get.

Anonymous said...

Oh please. You can't compare India and the US like that. You're dramatically oversimplifying Indian society. India still has a pretty rigid caste system, and if you're not born into money you likely won't get very far, smart or stupid.

Anonymous said...

But America has a caste system also--rich lawyers make big bucks, work from 11-2, and play golf until 5pm until they ride their convertibles home to fuck their trophy wives. Everybody knows that.

Anonymous said...

America does not have a caste system; it has a class system. The latter allows for social movement, the former does not.

Answer: I didn't say Indian attorneys were being besmirched any more than what you so crassly call TTTers; I simply said that this first group was being besmirched. That other groups may also be besmirched, to greater or lesser extents, is beside the point.

And all people take what they can get, both "winners" and "losers." The difference is that winners are those who are happy with what they get, whatever that may be.

India is a crowded, stinking third world TTT. We shouldno longer be nice to these sleazy scumbags taking our jobs!

Take action! Don't go to Indian restuarants or give your money to any Indian owned business. Don't use Indian cab drivers and don't do business with firms that outsource their legal work (firms and clients).

India is a beautiful country and the home of one of the world's most profoundly developed religious and philosophical traditions. The ignorant racist rant above is beneath any member of the bar and is simply shameful.

Anonymous said...

Right and its always us, the Americans that are supposed to take it and feel guilty as third worlders like you rip us off. Do you really think you can guilt us into letting you steal our livilhoods?

You are an embarrassing pig.

Anonymous said...

Third worlders like me? I didn't realize Washington DC was in the third world, thank you for the lesson in global economics. "I" am not trying to steal anyone's job. I will simply say that you are not entitled to a job that someone else can do more efficiently.

Perhaps I am an embarrasing pig, but I can try covering it up with lipstick.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the guy from Washington....let us all tone it down here, racist rants or otherwise......however, it should be noted that America is very quickly becoming a Third World Country....when blue collar and white collar jobs can be outsourced at whim, leaving hundreds of thousands without jobs, and the average person cannot afford the basic daily necessities of life (I'm not talking wants--I'm talking food, shelter, clothing) and when an education (a high education that requires licensure) cannot bring these things about (coupled with enormous debt) then things are going bad in a hurry.....trust that this upcoming election will either cement our status as 2nd World or it will hail our final descent into the 3rd World--but we definitely will give up our 1st World status indefinitely as whoever takes the Oval Office shores up this economy (ceases to feed $10 B/month in US taxpayer $ to oil-rich Iraq).....or doesn't.....

Law firms aren't running charities. They're not obligated to pay relatively expensive contract attorneys in the US if they can find the same or equivalent service (in their view, which is the only one that matters) at a cheaper price elsewhere. Have those of you who are childishly griping about India refrained from buying any products produced abroad? Unlikely.

LOL you haven't seen much of India, have you dipshit? Try living in Calcutta for a week.

This has to be the most self-loathing and pathetic site of all time, I love it! I got out of the business. I was a contract guy for roughly four years before I saw the writing on the wall. I did stints in Philly, Newark, and various ones in North Jersey and worked for several agencies. The toilet law schools need to be regulated and the agencies and law firms are criminals. I jumped ship. I urge others to do the same. It might have cost me my marriage, but life goes on. It's better than feeling your brain ooze out of your ears doing a job a trained capuchin could perform. I spent three extra years of school and incurred an onerous debt to code documents? Yikes. Keep up w/ the commentary, funny shit, great stuff.

Plus, I don't think a JD is worth shit, you know how many morons and socially inept retards are out there who went to law school and passed the bar exam? Will share horror stories of whack job co-workers at another time.

And yes, people like Perla are capitalist scum who are poster children of why the American economy is collapsing. In some ways, I am glad the economy is collapsing b/c once the middle class is broke, there be nothing left to do but revolt and the sociopathic capitalist swine may finally be subjugated by a final socialist revolution. Viva La Revolucion!!!

Anonymous said...

So what the fuck are you doing now? Tell me your doing something better than document review, I dare you. And if you think solo practice is better, assuming that's what your doing, your probably starving.

Anonymous said...

@ 5:16 -- Good news for me. The capitalist "swine" have all the guns. I sometimes wish that you socialist nutcases would start your revolution just so you could be put down and eliminated.

Socialism = slavery. Read "The Road to Serfdom" by Friedrich Hayek.

My response to one of the many anonymous characters on this site, I work for the gub'ment and am treated like a human being with dignity and respect and have a fairly large responsibility with awesome benefits and an awesome boss, who, incidentally was a lawyer (in the 70s, went to Rutgers) but was disillusioned with it and left. Everyone just needs to chill out. I urge everyone on this site to smoke more marijuana and challenge them to take LSD, moreover, put it in your boss' coffee, maybe they'll wake up from the bogus dream they've cultivated. You dig that?

Bardamu said...

I urge everyone to be kind to one another. We all probably got in this "business" for the wrong reasons. And perhaps, in an unmindful moment, I viewed Perla as "capitalist swine", when actually I inappropriately routed my emotions, in fact, I feel sorry for people like him who are so deluded by greed. I still steadfastly believe that socialism is the answer. Capitalism has far too few "winners" and far too many "losers".

Anonymous said...

9:14: Working for the gub'ment is nothing like working in the private sector, where people are actually accountable for things, and where people aren't punished by water-boarding!

Bardamu said...

How would you know what I do in the government and what my level of accountability is? Yeh, and it appears there is significant accountability in the private sphere, with oh, AIG, Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, these crooks won't spend a day in jail. How accountable can you be while coding documents? Don't kid yourself, you are not that important, they'll have some chump w/ a JD, some false hope and a pulse in no time to replace you. Been there, done that, that's why I got out, hell, I empathize with you. But if you are going to work those absurd hours for relatively shit pay with no respect in undignified work spaces it is REALLY your choice. I got out because I couldn't stomach it anymore, I had to make difficult, life altering choices and I feel much better about my situation. I urge you to do the same or form a union or something. Just don't sit there like a desperate, self-loathing coward. Do something you love or if you can't find a job that is tolerable while you pursue your dreams, hobbies, etc. That being said, keep the comments coming on this site, they are hilarious.

Bardamu said...

P.S. I am not starving either. In fact, I am quite well fed and have a gym membership and good health insurance and benefits and all the things that workers had about 40 years ago before the U.S. outsourced everything so their shareholders and managers could have 20 global homes instead of 10. Money isn't everything. Expand your scope. Status and money are illusion and if you are into that, you are deluded.

Anonymous said...

bardamu. I never said I knew what you did in the gubment. I just said there was no accountability there, and I stand by that. You counter that there are problems with Lehman Bros. et al; that may be true, but they are paying a price.

And for one who would appear so indignant about people guessing what you do (although neither I nor anyone did), you seem quite content to make assumptions about my work. FYI, I make quite a good living doing doc review, as I work in foreign languages, which pays significantly more than standard.

Bardamu said...

That begs the question, then why the hell are you on this site if you are so content? You did make an assumption, about accountability and there is no accountability in corporations, maybe for the suckers at the bottom or middle management, but that's about it. Lehman Bros. isn't paying shit, the tax payers will pay for it just like the S&L and their scumbag managers will get away with it. Same old story. Free market economy. Trickle down economics. What a crock. Have fun coding documents, or at least, try and convince yourself of that and that you are indispensible to whatever temp agency you may be with.

Bardamu said...

You'd fuck this broad? She looks like a sleazy bourgeioise cunt who would kill her own mother for fifty cents and eat her children for a dime. Man, were you drunk when you wrote that?

Anonymous said...

Bardamu, I didn't realize being discontented was a prerequisite for visiting this site. I am content, and contrary to your assumption, I am not with an agency. I am self-employed and contract directly with law firms, which is another way to increase earnings.

The truth is there is very little accountability in the United States in either the government or the private sector, but there is almost none whatsoever in the former. Both 9/11 and the botched intelligence that led to the Iraq war prove that; no one was fired for the gross incompetency that was evident in both situations.
