Joan Wexler Of Crooklyn Law School

"TTT,

I am highlighting Joan Wexler and her in$TTiTTuTTion this week on my blog. I was tipped to this PDF by a commenter on my site. Here is Brooklyn Law School's IRS Tax Form 990, i.e. Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, for 2007.

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2008/237/227/2008-237227990-050fa431-9.pdf

Go to page 18 of Crooklyn's IRS Form 990 to see Joan Wexler's salary and compensation for 2007.

As a dean who devoted 50 hours per week to her position, Joan G. Wexler took home $529,293 in salary; $40,146 in contributions to employee benefit plans & deferred compensation plans; and $50,580 in expense account and other allowances. This brings her TOTAL COMPENSATION for 2007 to $620,019.

Look at line 12 on page 1. The sewer of law took in $69,029,620 in total revenue that year. After total expenses, the "non-profit" school made a nice gain of $9,052,403 this year. On line 21, we can see that Crooklyn had $143,063,841 in total net assets. Line 59 shows the school had $244,
710,030 in total assets.

This lady and her institution have consigned LEGIONS of lawyers to a lifetime of debt servitude, anxiety and doc review hell. Tom, please provide the link to the IRS form, so your readers can see the figures for themselves. Thank you.

Nando"

Another great find by Nando. There are legions of underemployed document reviewers slaving away in unventilated basements, so that morally bankrupt individuals like Joan Wexler can continue pulling down half a mil a year by scamming unsuspecting college graduates with all those "inadvertent" errors to US News. The woman is a sham/con artist and she needs to be carted away and locked up before she destroys anymore young lives.

Good find, nando. Keep fighting these filthy dogs. And keep smashing them over the head with their own facts. Good job, and thanks for posting this, TtT. I mean, seriously, this bitch made $620,000 as dean of Crooklyn. Son of a bitch!!

I wonder if what is going on at law schools and what Joan Wexler profits from would be considered "oppression of the poor, which is a cruel, tyrannical, and unjust dealing with inferiors."

600 Grand?!?!?!?! For what? No wonder the tuition is through the roof.

Disgusting. That photo actually is too cute to be Wexler. Other than that, good post. Oh, and she works 50 hrs a week. My fucking ass, she does. But let's say she does. That means she would work 2500 hours in a year, which means she makes $248 per hour in one of the cushiest jobs on the planet. All she has to do is fudge data and sell optimistic kids on the idea that they will be successful.

I know it is too early but I am submitting my nomination for the 2010 Beastly Behavior Award: President and CEO of Crooklyn Law School, Joanie Wexler.

How's that hope & change treating you? Barry Obama's 25 year installment student lending taxpayer balloon bail out program is only going to exacerbate the problem. I fully expect BLS tuition to top 80K by 2016 and for Joan Wexler and her ever growing cadre of crafty lower level administrator underlings to be raking in well over a mil. Our generation will come to rue the day when they gave unfettered access and power to the Obama/Pelosi/Reid higher educational socialistic establishment complex. Poor fools who were duped into believing that socialism under the guise of access to "higher education" and its most recent transfiguration into "universal healthcare" does not lead to properity, equality, and access to all, but rather to slavery and a sort of caste feudalism. How soon we forget our history; it wasn't long ago that the elite class or nomenklatura held sway over Soviet society. Nomenklatura enjoyed many perquisites denied to the average Soviet citizen. Among those perks were shopping at well-stocked stores, access to foreign merchandise, preference in obtaining housing, access to dachas and holiday resorts, being allowed to travel abroad, sending their children to prestigious universities, and obtaining prestigious jobs (as well as party membership itself) for their children.

Not only did this boar make $620,019 in TOTAL COMPENSATION - for 2007. BLS Secretary George W. Johnson likewise made $241,964; and CFO Laurie Newitz made $298,860.

That is one nice racket, isn't it? These swine get paid IN FULL right up front. The students and graduates are stuck paying for their mistake (plus interest) for the next 25-30 years.

Anonymous said...

George Johnson used to be a full time professor at BLS. He taught Property, I believe. Please don't tell me that after retirement he was handed a bullshit secretarial position and is pulling down over $200,000 a year???? This is all legalized fraud. They've got nothing on Costra Nostra.

There are many of those quotes that keeps the ?surgeon inspired about his job, they also help him jump these large obstacles in life. Fortunately, the quotes have been released to the public to help inspire fellow surg?ons:-

"At 10, I was intrigued by surgery, I wanted to be surgeon for a long time. I love doctor shows and surgery shows. Blood is not an issue for me. I even took pictures once of me getting my blood taken. "

"Dr Babanga, my local doctor, recommended that I should perhaps try superflex before and after breakfast"

"Humanity abhors, above all things, a vacuum in itself, and your class will be cut off from humanity as the ?surgeon slowly cuts the cancer and alien growth from the body. "

Fantastic, the ?surgeon is ?inspired

Where can the same information be found about New York Law School and Fat "Massasar" (Richard Matasar, concurrently dean of NYLS and chairman of Access Group, in case anyone has fogotten).

I was hoping someone would ask for his salary:

Page 16 of New York Law School's 2009 IRS Form 990 - last entry on the page:

Richard Matasar, president of NYLS, allegedly works 35 hours per week and "earned" $495,122 in straight salary, i.e. no other compensation. Yes, Matasar made FOUR HUNDRED NINETY FIVE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO DOLLARS as predident of this TTT sweltering dump - for 2008!!!

Maybe you should spend a little more time blaming the policies of the Bush Administration that allowed places like Brooklyn Law School to defraud the American taxpayer by claiming non-profit status. The more I think about it, the more I see this greed is part-and-parcel with the corporate attitudes fostered by Bush and his cronies on Wall Street where law and ethics mean nothing, and exploiting women and minorities for profits is par for the course. And why obey the law? If Bush can start two illegal wars in violation of international law, then what's the big deal with a few million in fraud?

Anonymous said...

Democrats. Republicans. Right. Left. Bush. Obama.

They're all crooked Elitists, beholden to corporate and monied interests.

They want you to bicker amongst yourselves about which side is to blame for the problems. Meantime, they continue to line their pockets.

Wake up.

Yes but how much more does Dean Matassar make as head of the Access Group and for masacring the futures of college students?

I remember how people talk about immigrating 20/50 years ago whatever it was, and working hard and getting the lifestyle they have now. They said they wanted to create a better future for their children or something.

Well, it kind of looks like their children are absolutely screwed over. Do people still immigrate here and actually have better lives than where they came from? I know Indians don't need to immigrate here anymore, after all, all the jobs went there.

Illegal Alien- 7 bucks an hour. All off the books, of course. 1500x7= $10,000. Pops out anchor baby and/or enters into a marriage of convenience. Collects food stamps, welfare, and Medicaid.
A recent report concluded that in every state in the nation, welfare pays far more than a low-wage job. According to the report, "The value of the total package of benefits [received by AFDC recipients] relative to a job providing the same after-tax income ranges from a high of $36,400 in Hawaii to a low of $11,500 in Mississippi. In eight jurisdictions...welfare pays at least the equivalent of a $25,000 a year job. $10,000 + $25,000=

ILLEGAL ALIEN'S REAL INCOME = $35,000.

---------------------------

Crooklyn grad earns $20 bucks hour in some shitlaw factory. $20x1500=$30,000. Crooklyn worker of course has to pay taxes, or she/he is hounded to the end of the earth by the IRS. $30,000-6,000=$24,000. Crooklyn grad of course gets no health insurance and is "too rich" to be eligible for Medicaid. Food stamps are off the table if he/she was lucky enough to find a job. Sallie Mae of course comes along and gets her huge piece. $24,000-10,000=$14,000

Crooklyn GRAD'S REAL INCOME = $14,000.

Page 9 of Access Group, Inc.'s 2009 Form 990:

Richard Matasar, board chairman, works 4.0 hours per week but received NO compensation?!?

Whereas the president and CEO, Christopher Chapman made $477,419 in salary + $41,353 in "estimated amount of other compensation from the organization and related organizations." TOTAL COMPENSATION for this pig was $518,772 - for 2008.

Does anyone believe that someone would work 4.0 hours week as board chair and take no compensation? That would be bout 200 hours per year. Who knows? Perhaps Matasar is just a figurehead who attends a few meetings every year. The company is based in the ominous Wilmington, DE.

wow. so now former prezident bush is being blamed for Brooklyn Law School, a school that existed decades before he was even born.

Or wait, maybe he is being blamed for allowing BLS non-profit status, a status that existed before he became president?

No way a fine gentleman like Clinton would have allowed non-profit status prior to Bush, or a gentleman such as Obama would continue to allow a law school to claim non-profit status.

Anonymous said...

The compensation Massasar receives from Access Group probably consists of kickbacks to NYLS for each new Access Group loan NYLS students sign up for. Access Group is the default provider used by NYLS's Financial Aid office. NYLS students are automatically signed up with Access Group. They must request a different lender if they don't want Access Group.

Convenient, and according to Massasar, not an unethical conflict of interest.

What about Albany TTT School of Law? Attending TTTAlbany costs close to 40K a year. You would think with this sort of tuition that this InsTTTiTTTuiTTTion of higher learning could fund its own damn housing clinic. Another corrupt handout from New York State. I thought NYS was nearly bankrupt, and here they are giving out cash to TTT InSTTTuTTTitions of so called higher learning.

ALBANY, N.Y., July 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albany Law School recently received a $205,000 grant from the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC) to fund a new Housing Clinic within the law school's Clinic & Justice Center.

In the Housing Clinic, students will work with Albany Law faculty to offer legal services, outreach, educational opportunities and housing counseling to homeowners and tenants affected by foreclosure in Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties.

"Funding for the new Housing Clinic is vital not only in terms of service for members of our community, but also in terms of the hands-on experience that it will afford our students," said Thomas Guernsey,

It's funny Albany Law students will be helping people with their foreclosures, yet the law students themselves will never be able to buy a home...

Just one more indication that this whole godforsaken country is going down the tubes, we are all becoming impoverished, indebted pawns of big global corporations, who manipulate and control the media, turning everyone into "libertarian conservatives" (no regulations, low taxes on the rich, no liability for big corporations) so the middle class will vote against its own interests of putting meat on the table, a roof over their heads and money in the bank.

We are all becoming stooges, and if America goes down the toilet, we deserve it!!!

Dat bitch be UNDERPAID.

She made $9 mil for the school and only got paid $620k???? SHEEEEE-IT, even a temp gets a bigger cut of the profits than dat.

Dat's fucked up!!!

I didn't go to Albany, but I remember getting a $20k a year or so scholarship from them. The tuition at that time was just under $30k, so it actually seemed pretty reasonable. I wasn't sure if even that $10k a year was worth borrowing though, and another maybe $5-10k for living expenses.

If the tuition went up, I really don't see why people would go there. They really needed to price it under $20k a year overall.

I wound up paying a lot more for a school that wasn't even much better and didn't land me anything...ranked around Crooklyn's rank with a smaller scholarship. If I had gotten a full ride at Albany I would have taken it actually.

I think most people under 30 are just totally fucked. Someone mentioned doing foreclosures and never being able to buy a house themselves, that's very accurate. It wasn't supposed to be that way and it wasn't that way for anybody 10, 20 years ago. The legal field wasn't great even then but you had a chance at least, and if you were handling foreclosures you were probably in at least a decent job, not just giving away your work for peanuts or for free.

I went to BLS and when I got in, thought it was the golden ticket. Being a top rated school it boasted the best network in New York with alumni sitting there with plum positions for us.
Brooklyn's placement office makes it sound like there is something YOU are doing wrong if you don't make partner at an Amlaw 100 firm. They point out things like lack of descriptions on past jobs on your resume. "With a resume like that you won't make it."
Now, I am feeling like the Villanova grad who just took it off his resume and became a paralegal.
The paralegals at the big law firms stare and look down at the temps like they are some kind of freaks or leper people.

The Truth About Orthodontics said...

Lisa needs braces guy has seemed so uninspired lately.

These one sentence, lower case posts are a far cry from his impassioned past declarations in all caps that LISA NEEDS BRACES.

Maybe he became aware that braces aren't covered by dental plans - orthodontics is a cash cow busines. All the dentists and orthodontists are in cahoots, where, in exchange for a referral fee, the dentist tries mightily to convince the middle class parent that their kid needs braces to straighten out their teeth. The parents, concerned that their little angel's Stonehenge-like smile will prevent them from getting a good job as an adult, buys the story and gets the kid braces.
The braces straighten the kid's teeth, but wearing that disgusting, stupid retainer 5 years later becomes a real drag, and the kid's teeth wind up all over the place, anyway.

Lots of the above parents also encouraged their kid to go to middle class law school, like BLS. Kid now does doc review and no one gives a shit about his/her smile.
