DiscoverReady

"Hear Sean/Shawn Treadwell is staffing through Strategic. It's for 'DiscoverReady' -- Quick look at their website reveals that they are big into 'offshoring' document review.

Hello India, goodbye USA!

If you wind up working there, heads up! They confiscate cell phones, and some lady with blonde hair stares at you all day from within a glass cage."

Look's like Tom is back!

Keep up the good work, guys. The ABA elites might be ignoring you, but the grassroots and the local bar associations are starting to take note.

I wonder what she's thinking as she's looking at you?

Somehow that sounds oddly sexually stimulating.

I hear it is pretty awlful there.

they confiscate cell phones??!! Is that legal?!!! What if there's an emergency and you need to get a message or call someone?!! I find this hard to believe.

Anonymous said...

Get ready for more of the same. With the law schools pumping out more and more graduates and employers like this shipping jobs overseas, the scraps that remain are going to become every more low paying and gulag like.

have they been turning over help a lot?

WELCOME BACK TOM

I interviewed yesterday. I asked a few questions about conflicts etc- stonewalled. I do have a law license and I want to keep it.

Anonymous said...

Who did you interview with? Was it DiscoverReady or Strategic?

Temp "attorneys" are animals, as evidenced here. They need to be watched and monitored; therefore, they are, and will continue to be.

It will NEVER be any different.

Anonymous said...

Yes, we are animals. So stop billing us out at $500 an hour and scamming your clients!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Have you see DiscoverReady's snack offering? Man - they have some good snacks. And honestly, they don't confiscate cell phones, they just ask you to put them in a drawer (with ample visiting privileges).

Anonymous said...

Is there a "Snack Policy" a la DTI?

Anonymous said...

haha. worst job of all time. huge turnover, terrible production and morale. sad people. they take away your cell phone because everyone is just there until a reasonable opportunity comes along and if you cant answer your phone, you can't leave for a fair work environment. If you're thinking about it, don't do it!

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Anonymous said...

what do you think, matt?

Anonymous said...

interesting.......thou dost protest too much? Something happen? Want to talk about it?

Anonymous said...

hey Mumbai, please take Shawn

I'm there right now. It's pretty strict. The guy in charge is an A-hole, even by doc review standards. And there's no overtime. Hopefully something better comes along in the new year.

Anonymous said...

Although, Discover Ready seems somewhat big brotherish, one perk is that they have one supervisor with ample bosom who wears see through blouses that allow you to see her silver dollar sized nipples.

Anonymous said...

Matt G... stick to clicking & keep your eyes on the screen, not on your supervisor's chest.

Anonymous said...

Which supervisor are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

The ahole's gotta be DICK James. I don't know who the big-breasted one is though.

Anonymous said...

Nick's no worse than the others. When (if?) the economy picks up, then discoverready's gonna be the next Barrasso, as everyone will leave, showing them the same consideration they've shown us.

Anonymous said...

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but do realize that the "strict" supervisor travels nearly 10 hours every weekend from another state just to be with you. He takes time away from his family so he can provide guidance, and he doesn't go out of his way to cut anyone from the team. He may be tough, but he's fair.

The cell phone issue... yeah, I'd love to sit at my desk and send out the LOLs and WTFs to my friends, too, but a couple of bad eggs ruined it for the rest of us. The policy blows, but no one wants listen to someone making an appointment with her lady doc to treat genital warts or yap on the phone with Mom Dukes to discuss her IBS in full, excruciating detail, trust. The real issue, though, is security. DR just asks us not use our cell phones in the review space. Ask them why. It's legit.

I've worked on the shitty projects out there--Paul Weiss in its windowless basement, large critters and public-restroom-with-homeless-people days and even on the infamous Anita project right alongside Tom the Temp. (Hey, you.) I remember what it was like to feel unappreciated and demoralized, and DR really strives not to make anyone feel that way.

Half of DiscoverReady consists of former contract attorneys, so they really try to put the kabosh on those unfair conditions. They cap the hours so we don't kill each other and so we enjoy our lives outside of the 9-5. Some of the PMs really go out of their way to boost morale and ensure a pleasant work environment. And the company provides snacks and sodas as a gesture of their appreciation.

For the most part, the people there are pretty nice, but more importantly, they are reasonable. If you are unhappy with your current project, talk to another associate. Let them know why you are unhappy. If you are complaining about the job itself, well, doc review sucks. But if there is something DR can do to enhance your experience there, I'm sure they will do what they can--within reason--to make it a better place. Best of luck and and professional happiness to everyone.

LOL, I never comment, as I consider it a waste of time. How long did it take Mr. or Mrs. DiscoverReady to write that magnum opus after all? But that last comment is so over the top, I just had to respond.

Many of us travel more than 10 hours a week from the "burbs"; it's called commuting. And he doesn't do it to lovingly guide us; at best he does it to get paid like the rest of us, in all liklihood, he does it to get the power rush of lording his authority over everyone else. Ever sit through his meetings when he enumerates all the reasons he can "fire us on the spot?" They include laughing and talking to your neighbor, for the uninitiated.

The cell phone issue... I'm a single mom who'd appreciate being allowed to keep the phone on vibrate so I could be reached in an emergency. That you think the majority of us would use the cells to text says more about you than us. And if you know the reason they don't allow phones, you'd know it has nothing to do with texting anyway, so throw away your red herring.

The cap on our hours is a cap on our income, and there haven't been snacks for two weeks, which when they are promoted during the interviews become terms of employment, rather than gestures of appreciation.

Anonymous said...

Is it true they make you wear badges? Do people really get fired for intermittently talking and visiting with colleagues? If one does not have access to one's cell phone, how is one supposed to receive delivered food?

Anonymous said...

Yes, yes, and we go get it. I've been a temp for a decade now (at which point does it become perm?) and this is the worst place I've ever worked at, and the worst boss for whom I've ever worked. The only problem with 2:38's post is he or she didn't fully describe how bad it is!

A friend of mine shared his reflections on the matter:

sounds tough, but it is something similar to what we required on our project at ...... disabled all USB ports, no internet, disabled disk drives.

the client had a paranoia about data getting out.
deal with it. with the downturn in the economy and the glut of lawyers, temps are going to have to tolerate a lot more abuse.

Anonymous said...

People are tolerating it. Doesn't mean they won't leave in droves if something better comes along. And with what goes on there, a lot of things would qualify as better when the market for us improves.

feduptemp said...

They do have a couple of pretty hot supervisers.

Anonymous said...

Who's your favorite?

Anonymous said...

I'm on the project now and I don't have any problems with Nick.

He hardly says anything other than to endlessly answer questions from a room full of belligerent contract attorney "partners" who manage to over analyze the most simple things.

Plus, I check my cel 1000 times a day. He's never batted an eye or said a word to me about.

If you don't like discover-ready or Nick...quit.

Hi Essie

DiscoverReady gets paid by the document, which leads to unethical work/review of documents. They require you to do 100 docs/hour. They don't care about the quality of the work. They tell you precisely how to review your documents. They tell you that you have to read every page of every document. But how is that possible doing 100 docs an hour? They fired people who did only 75 docs per hour. People who were behind in their review started mass-coding documents after they announced this ridiculous requirement. SEC and Plaintiffs firms take note!!

Anonymous said...

I guess you could do what the Nigerians do, randomly code as fast as you can because its too much work to actually read the document. (And they can't read English anyways.)

Anonymous said...

DiscoverReady can't cut it in New York. They just laid off a bunch of lawyers two weeks in a row. Last one to leave, turn out the lights!

Anonymous said...

Temps come, temps go.

Anonymous said...

Lawsuits come, lawsuits go... has anyone ever heard of a case actually settling as perhaps a reason why a document review is no longer necessary? Unfortunately there's not a lot anyone can do about that.

I was on one project where apparently the case was settled at 4am... most of us heard about it on the news before heading into work. We got to work and were let go. It sucked... but... that's the way of the legal world and the way of temp work specifically.

By the way, I'm on the project with DiscoverReady mentioned in the other posting where a bunch of people were hired then fired... what actually happened is they gave us all a day off and then brought at least 90% of us back within a day or two, just split us on to two different projects. We are all still here and working. While it certainly hasn't been perfect, it hasn't been bad either.

Anonymous said...

6:20 is a troll. They brought back DIFFERENT people than whom they laid off.

Anonymous said...

8:59.. so mature calling people trolls. They brought back almost all of the same people. I was here on the first day and I, along with most of us, are still here. I know a few people were not brought back.. perhaps you're one of them?

Anonymous said...

The people in the big room are the same; those in the small room are replacements.

Anonymous said...

I was there for 2 weeks in August. And I temped for them 3 yrs ago when they were in a different building in the financial distr and they still had internet on the computers, but it was the same fishbowl work conditions where you're observed all day.

And I never had my phone confiscated. When I was there people were texting like crazy under their desks. Supposedly DR is worried about people using their camera phones to get conf. info.

But yeah they had great snacks and one of the supervisors has a great rack.

Other than that, it sucked! And the hours are so limited you cant really make any money.

has anyone been hired in as a data base entry lead?
