Lawcrossing.com - Could They Be Anymore Distasteful?

Last month, Prof. Randy Pausch, a best-selling author who achieved worldwide fame for his "The Last Lecture" speech at Carnegie Mellon University, passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Recently, a sleazy recruiting/temp agency known as employmentcrossing.com (the same vile cretins behind the lawcrossing.com enterprise) created an on-line blogging uproar, when they went ahead and used the late Mr. Paush in one of their for profit advertisements. Truly despicable.

law crossing is a special joke in the farce that has become the legal profession...

As someone mentioned in the youtube comments, this is an example of "piggy-back" advertising. They don't give a shit about this guy, they are merely trying to use the news surrounding his death to get people to look at their site.

You forget to mention that they are also affiliated with BCG search.

I tried Law Crossing for a month and the experience was distasteful. The few entry level jobs I applied for were either out of date or with employers that did not respond to my application.

Law Crossing also makes it difficult for you to cancel your subscription, which renews automatically forever unless canceled. I had to wait 10-15 minutes on hold while listening to advertisements on how I could consolidate my student loans.

On top of that, Law Crossing started spamming me with requests to buy books and renew my subscription.

The $30 I spent on that site was not worth it. I would not recommend it to anyone.

law crossing, in my opinion, are very unethical. I canceled my subscription, a YEAR latter they tried to say I had not canceled it and tried to bill me for an entire year. When I informed them of their mistake they made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to get in touch with anyone who could fix it. It was only after I threatened to serve them with papers and sue them that they finally admitted they made a mistake. They are scum.

Has this been a slow summer? And are things going to pick up in Sept. I've been out of work since July and no one has called for a project. Is anyone else seeing this or am I the only loser?

Anonymous said...

It has definitely been a very slow summer. Don't despair.

Anonymous said...

Summers are traditionally slow, but there have been projects out there in New York. Don't wait for the agencies to call you; call them.

any site where you have to pay to find a job is presumed useless..and possibly fraudelent.

Unknown said...

sorry, fraudulent. Ok, maybe Law Crossing COULD help me with spellcheck :)

That ad isn't just tasteless, it is immoral. Entirely disrespectful.

ban the foreign and half the women

paying to publish ads is one thing, but i would never use a site that forces me to pay in order to find a job.

4:20, you have it backwards. Ban all the women.

With regard to this summer being slow, one need only see the daily headlines on Law.com of staff layoffs (usually a sign of stealth associate, senior associate layoffs, and partners' forced retiring on a rolling bases, not en masse), practice groups' bailing to other firms, and the patterns of law firms towards new first year associates' starting date and summer programs cutback or elimination. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the next 10-14 months are going to be slim. Rumour has it that a very major international insurance giant in NY/NJ will be laying off en masse to the tune of almost 15,000 people (many in-house attorneys and non-practicing attorneys included with upper management and staff white collar) no later than 10/1 or right after labor day. Moreover, massive layoffs at other NYC/JN corporations.......considering there is a hiring freeze at state and city agencies......heh, wake up people, we are in for a ride.

Doc. review to $10 an hour!

The hourly is headed towards the $20.00 range. There are no jobs waiting for the laid off attorneys and new licensee's. Plus, people are coming here now from out of state to do this work.

Check out today's Law.com, ABA Journal headline story, and a recent McKinsey report. We are back to the early 1990's. Remember those days - post October, 1987 stock market crash? No recovery for attorneys until early 1996.
Labor day is the "start date at the gate".......good luck!
