FRY THEM!

"Tom,

I am at the end of my rope. I had a good cry this morning.

Arrived at work yesterday. As you are probably aware, we are in the middle of a DC heat wave. Unfortunately, the building custodian neglected to turn on the A.C. in our unventilated closet this weekend. On top of the stifling heat, I was crammed into a seat next to this woman who doesn't believe in daily showering.

I could only bear the misery for about an hour. I got up and left behind all of my overtime for the week."

Call OSHA

I feel so bad for this person. Seven years of higher education, the Bar exam, anual state bar dues, CLE... to sit next to some reeking skank in an unfir workspace.

She was probably an overseas foreign trained attorney. Agencies love to hire unemployable people that they know will put up with abuse and never leave for greener pastures.

Did they at least allow you to wear shorts? I remember being on the Tyco gig when we had to work a mandatory Fourth of July weekend in a building with no AC for the whole weekend. It was pretty intense. It did lead to at least one temp hiding the salami with another temp.

On my project, the room is so hot that several of the reviewers have decided to chip in and buy an A.C. with their own money! Someone else bought a fan, but it was stolen.

For accuracy sake, if you are referring to the Tyco project through Special Counsel overhead Penn Station a few years back, it was optional to work the Fourth of July weekend. It was hot as hell with no air conditioning and the windows could not be opened. Granted people should not work under those conditions at all, but it was your choice if you wanted to work in order to make extra money. The paraloser in charge, an arrogant dyke, took it on herself to tell people that they could work from home. She was fired!

2:14 No need for the hate. The paralegal supervisor was a temp too. She was in the same boat as us. The way I remember it, we had to work at least one of the 4th of July weekend days. AC was available for only part of the day on Sat. By the fourth, it was an oven. My skirt was literally stuck on me. I know some of the guys and the paralegal were giving me some looks, but I was too hot to even imagine having sex with anyone.

What is the law firm? They should fry themselves... and be reported to the bar. For what? I have no idea. But let them deal with it.

On a related note, Compliance says "No" to shorts on the weekends. Women, its ok to still wear your skirts any day, so I am encouraging all men to wear skirts and let it all hang out! What type of BS is that on days when its over 100 degrees with the heat index outside (and limited air conditioning in these crammed quarters inside)! Then, if they say anything, we can claim sexism and sue their covered asses.

Too bad I don't have a skirt, 4:57.

The project manager, Frank, is an insecure douche. He acts like a drill sergeant and pretends to be an attorney.

Don't flatter yourself. I don't think anybody wanted to have sex with you that day because it was so uncomfortable, even though your imagery is turning me on a bit right now.
I don't care whether the "paralegal supervisor" was a temp or not. I hate all paralosers who have the audacity to supervise attorneys. Furthermore, she flaunted her homosexual deviant lifestyle becuause she figured she could do that after moving to New York. I don't want to hear about your deviant conquests at work. I don't want to hear about your heterosexual conquests at work either. Keep your personal life at home where it belongs. Don't attempt to make me accept your deviance. Do what you want. Just shut the f*ck up about it at work.
And it was not mandatory to work at least one day that holiday weekend. So you could have sat at home and not have your dress stuck to you all day if you did not want to make any money on a holiday weekend.

I think that "Call OSHA" was the most tight and cogent comment left so far. Do something about the unfit conditions. Maybe it will work, maybe not. But at least it's proactive.

Anonymous said...

contact the mayor's office too and load them up with complaints about your staffing agency AND the law firm. staffing agencies don't care until their bottom is on the line... report 'em!

Anonymous said...

if your dress or skirt or whatever is sticking to you, if you are hot, and I am leaping here, please leave us a picture... cheer up the day of the drab interior of my closet.

Anonymous said...

No cool air, I don't care.

I just slow down on my coding, if it becomes too unbearable.

Anonymous said...

6:02 - right on! someone complains about unfit working conditions and suddenly it's all about sex and homophobia. Call OSHA and complain. If an agency or a firm is being negligent, then go ahead and complain to the appropriate authorities. Provide the readers with real options not venom and hate. If you are not formally complaining then it is probably not that bad.

Anonymous said...

I hate this, I hate that...STOP already! now you hate the paralegal because?????? you are probably just mad because paralegals had better sense then to go to a TTT school and as a result are making more money than you. That makes you mad and a hater, huh?

Just tired of having values and lifestyles imposed on me at work.

Anonymous said...

This board is for venting, if you don't like it, go back to the Obama bliss boards and talk about hope and unity...

Anonymous said...

The only thing I care about when I get to work is what time I will get to leave work. I could care less about the documents, or the people that I am working with. People that try to be my friend/enemy or try to impose their values on me make this process all the more difficult.

Anonymous said...

8:27 It's not my problem if you are disgruntled. The key here is to stick up for decent working conditions. You are such a slave to the grind that you have become "normalized" into accepting inferior work conditions. I speak my mind and get results. What about you? Do you just get bitter or do actually fight the system?

leave weekend OT on the table !! must have been a bad smell...

why this topic not discussed while i was in law school ?? what did i pay that money for ??

I hate you for your psychological babble.
And I am tired of these Obama lovers who go on and on about him at work. And if you don't support Obama in a discussion with a black person of course you are viewed as a racist. Most black people loved the Clintons in the past, but now they make excuses to denigrate them in order to justify their support of Obama. What hypocrisy!

Anonymous said...

will obama be in support of more document reviews and work for contract attorneys ? will he support the closing of the law schools ?

Anonymous said...

Of course, he will be everything to everybody. "He is the one."(Oprah)

Anonymous said...

Are there any document reviews where I can sit in a room by myself, or on some isolated island somewhere? It's not the work that's unbearable, it's the people. I was once working in some small room where people wouldn't shutup and would constantly make it a habit to shove their politics and lifestyles down my throat.

oh now ya"ll hate eachother too - obama loves everyone

i worked 14 hour days in an unventilated, stifling hot room. cry me a river. overtime is the best motivator in the world.

cheers to OT !!!!!!!!!! may OT rule !!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Pure BS. No OT on Tuesday.

Get Real Tom. You sound like an Uncle Tom.

I tell people they don't have to code if they don't want to. They tell me Sallie Mae will break their kneecaps. Remember all those classes we took in law school that told us about ethics and treating other attorneys with professional courtesy?

What a fucking joke that was. Bitch ass cock sucking professors who never had to practice law in the real world. Fuck them and all the staffing agencies. In the ass.

No wonder you all work as temps.

any word on these projects denovo is staffing ???

Anonymous said...

When I get uncomfortable on a project, I take a walk, smoke a J, and bill for my time.

Anonymous said...

Hey 5:19. What's with the hate for paralegals? I am a paralegal supervisor at a V5 firm. If you are a temp doc reviewer, you a mouse-clicking monkey. Until you learn how to follow directions and bill a full day's work for a full day's pay, then I will always have to supervise you. I will monitor you and report back to the partner everything that you do. So, deal with it! Plus I get paid $180,000 a year plus $40,000 bonus.

Anonymous said...

3:58pm
Yeah, that right I be supevising attornys in the citi at a top VD firm. And I goes home and forgets I be a paraloser.

Anonymous said...

3:58pm
How many times do you have to bend over for the partner in order to be compensated like that? You are a fraud! Now go make some copies.

Go to library school. Law Librarians do well, and you have a better chance finding a perm job than waiting for your big break at a top ten firm that is never going to hiew you. Law Librarians with JDs still stand a chance at making a six figure salary. I don't have a JD, but I do have my Masters and went from $50K a year in '04 to $74K last year. You may never do better as attorneys.

I guess you got fired because you weren't doing your work. Hate yourself.
