Note

Someone forwarded me a depressing email today. Sadly, a popular DC contract attorney passed away this week from a heart attack. My deepest sympathy goes out to said contract attorney's family and everyone that worked with him.

In between his 40-80 hour workweeks, said contract attorney befriended a destitute 8 year old and had assisted in caring for the child. A memorial fund has been established in said contract attorney's name to continue to provide funds for the child. If you would like to contribute, please email me and I will provide you with details regarding the memorial fund.

I always said being a contract attorney was just as dangerous as being a police officer. You sit on your butt like humpty-dumpty for 12 hours a day, eat fatty slop for dinner, and are under constant stress as to where your next paycheck is coming from. I hope the reason he didn't fall back on his doctor's visits was because he wasn't being provided with adequate health insurance.

I bet he hadn't been to the doctor in 10 years....living paycheck to paycheck. Hopefully, he had life insurance so his family can get some benefit out of this tragedy.

I wonder indeed if he had any benefits or what kind of benefit plans were offered by his agency.

I think the healthcare crisis for temps is pretty severe. We had a woman, clearly working with a late term pregnancy be forced off the job due to the onset of labor. They called the EMTs and they wheeled her out of the project. This is the second 911 call in a week on this project.

Again, I wonder what level of healthcare they had from their agency. I hope at least something, otherwise, all of the work clicking will be to pay off medical bills.

I worked with another temp who had over $20,000 dollars in medical bills. She ended up bagging groceries at the whole foods in order to get benefits, so it wouldn't happen again. She paid the money back, month by month.

Unlike illegal immigrants, American citizens have to pay the hospital back for all medical care rendered without insurance.

The agencies don't care. There primary goal is finding more grist for the mill. I am sure they are filling his spot as we speak.

My condolences to the contract attorney and his family. I am so sorry to hear this news.

there is only so long one can go.... may the grass be greener on the other side....

Sadly, I see myself befalling the same fate. You can only take this misery for so long. I either see myself dying of a heart attack, or kicking the bucket after my liver blows out from all the drinking I do after work.

hey 7:46... hang in there.. count the money... don't think so much... try falling asleep while doing the documents... it is sort of peaceful...

My condolences to the family, nonetheless let’s not turn this discussion into a racist commentary about undocumented immigrants.

Woah, who said anything about race? We are facing a healthcare crisis for temp workers, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with race. Please don't let your knee-jerk political views cloud the purpose of this blog.

Have you even worked on any doc reviews? It's a very mixed group, more so than most work environments. I'm sorry that you feel compelled to bore this group with your unintelligible racist rants. We are all in this together.

I'm sorry that some of you feel compelled to make stupid knee-jerk political remarks about undocumented immigrants especially when the original post was about somebody passing away.

Especially on Easter, our prayers and condolences to the family of the deceased.

May the Easter Bunny come along and chop Krowitz's small pecker of a carrot off.

May the Easter Bunny give you a heart attack like that other doc reviewer.

It certainly be helpful if the identity of the contract attorney could be provided on the off-chance any of us worked with him/her over the years. I've had a similar experience on another project.....it ends up meaning alot to those who worked with the person, whether on the current project or past projects.

Is the timing of the death accurate in the posting? We had a very similar death in DC in early February. I hate to think that we lost someone else so soon.

Anonymous said...

We did. It is a second death. A shame.

What kind of adult "befriends" an 8 year old? Sounds like a pedophile or a pay-for-play situation. Gross! Good riddance!

They are murdering us! Profits over people! Money over life!

Very enlightening, 12:06. Thank you for adding value to this board.

Compromise- although most of you are temporary and can be canned at any moment, what do you think would be reasonable pay, working conditions, and hours for your job of reviewing documents? I've never seen so many complainers in my life, most of you are very sensitive. A horror story is not not being able to join a country club, a horror story is no college education, stuck working at mcdonalds for minimum wage. go out and do something with your lives. take on some real responsibility.
