The Portable Blacklist

"De Novo is circulating the blacklist at Simpson Thacher to associates in the hopes of maligning people. I know for a fact that Mickey the animalistic staff attorney at Simpson keeps a list because I saw him a couple of times write down the names of people in my presence."

???

Tom, this post makes no sense. Or, at the least, it is very confusing.

Whose names are DeNovo allegedly circulating? Current DeNovo temps who are already at Simpson? People who might be there in the future? Or people whom DeNovo has already blacklisted? (Wouldn't DeNovo just not bother to submit the resumes of those who are already blacklisted?)

If it's people who are already on the project, the question is this:

Why would DeNovo want to get people who are already on the project fired? As a rule, the agency doesn't want the firm to fire anyone; the agency doesn't want to lose and have to replace any cash cows who are already in place.

How dare you say that about Mickey you gutless worm I hope he kicks your ass!

I know who you are dipshit and you will be BLACKLISTED from this industry.

Anyone that has worked with Mickey knows that he is a jerk. He is a former security guard and a typical strong-armed bully that law firms use to carry out their dirty work and keep tight control over their slave plantations.

The problem with this guy is that he went too far. Before becoming the Simpson gulag master, it is widely known that he was on a project where he made many women feel uncomfortable. Anyway who knows about this past will never be hired at Simpson. HTH.

I've been lying low for some time, listening to all sides. As a lowly non-lawyer hr clerk at a large NY firm, I've managed to get my hands on a few documents of the black-list variety. While I know none of these people on the list personally, and while I have had full authority to view everything I am talking about here, I am wondering how I would leak the list if I wanted to.

send it to tom the temps e mail listed on this site and he can post it and please do it you would be helping alot of people who could really use a break

If a list like that was leaked, I would PEE IN MY PANTS. Greatest thing ever.

I've worked with Mickey for many years. I've worked side by side with him when he was a temp and I've worked for him several times since he became a staff attorney. The only people that seem to have a problem with him are those who feel that a temp job is a place to come and do everything EXCEPT the job they were hired to do. We all know temps who come to work to do nothing but surf the net, instant message their friends non-stop, talk on their cell phones and generally fuck around while everyone else is working. These same lazy-ass idiots are the first to feel persecuted when they are confronted with their low productivity. Also, we've all experienced sitting in a room for 12 hours a day for weeks at a time with some anti-social nut box more determined to make trouble than to review documents. These people also have a problem with Mickey because he is one of the few people left in the business that actually cares more about those doing their job than those who are determined to disrupt the work environment.Law firms are so scared of harrassment charges that all a lazy or insane temp has to do is hint at a lawsuit and the firm scrambles to protect its ass by coddling the nut at the expense of the sane. Mickey is still more concerned with the professionals who come to the job everyday ON TIME, review documents to the best of their ability and not be a pain in anyone's ass. I don't know about any list but if you're worried you need to check your own behavior on the job and stop using this forum to take cheap, cowardly and anonymous shots at someone who just wants to move his project along. This is EXACTLY why we are treated the way we are. If we don't have respect for ouselves why should we expect the firms or agencies to respect us or value what we do? Just do your job and you won't have to worry about anyone's list.

Hi, Mickey!

If there really is a blacklist, it will only be a matter of time before litigation is spawned as a result. Any temp agency which is stupid enough to write down the names of attorneys they will no longer use is unlikely to withstand the inevitable litigation which would ensue. Any law firm which is stupid enough to collude with a temp agency to write down the names of attorneys would most likely be ripped apart like a cow carcass in piranha infested waters.

So, true to the comment of working side by side with Mickey. I also worked with him and he has been supportive, respectful and he does work hard and expects someone to give back the same.
I think it is true malice to discredit him like this.

My experience with Mr. Tarpinian was that he is tough but fair, and all he requires is that you do the work you bill for. Simpson Thacher is, in my opinion, one of the better employers of temps in the city.

I agree with the comment directly above. It's amazing how the people who come to work everyday on time, do a good day's work for a good day's pay and aren't a pain in everyone's ass never have problems in temp world. Sure, there are firms that are shitholes (Sullivan & Cromwell, Paul, Weiss etc.) and individuals at firms that are assholes. But you will find those in any industry or profession. If we, as adults, don't like a particular work environment, or even the law profession generally, we have the option to leave. So, if you're not happy with how your legal career has turned out you can leave to pursue other opportunities with your JD or you can spend your time on blogs bellyaching with the other losers.

Mickey is a smug asshole. Sure, some temps (a minority) abuse things and should be fired, but that doesn't mean everyone else should suffer the consequences. There is software to determine if someone is cheating the system.

Why do we need asshole overlords like Mickey, then? Because law firms are cheap and dont want to pay for quality doc. reviewers. They rather nickel and dime us, and bring in cadavers with licenses. This creates the need for assholes like Mickey to act as the plantation gulag master.

what happened in DeNovo? looks like everyone got fired...

This site is becoming worse than Auto Admit. There is a pending District of Connecticut case concerning defamatory comments made by "anonymous" posters. I think it's Doe v. Ciolli. I know attorneys are not that intelligent when it comes to technology, but all your activities are logged by Google. If there is a court case, you can be outed. Your ISP and e-mail provider won't be able to protect you.

Auto Admit was run by a bunch of privileged, ivy-league, pre biglaw brats who talked about raping and sodomizing their innocent classmates.

This blog, while although nasty at times, raises legitimate issues concerning dangerous work conditions, abusive bosses, and a Biglaw caste system.

And who is going to sue? Dick Osman, Julie Zuckerburg, the partners that run the sweatshops? Yeah, they are going to be real sympathetic in front of NYC jury.

I don't even know Mickey, but I want to get to know him. If he pisses off all the jackasses who know they suck(and THAT'S why they fear him) then I want to shake his hand and tell him to keep it up! Good job! Maybe all you little bitches will go away then. Go drive a cab, you'll be happier. Seriously.

I worked with Mickey for over 2 years on a project where we were the last remaining contract attorneys after everyone else was let go. They kept us on because we were great at our jobs. Mickey always looked out for me and I have the upmost respect for him. He knows that he is hired to do a job and he gets it done. He expects the same from everyone he works with. He is a professional.
