No Peeing Permitted

Hey, Justine Clark: If ripping off 200 grand from the taxpayers isn't enough to satiate your greed, check out some of the services that this agency has to offer:
"I also recently heard from 2 doc reviewers who went to a mid-size project in early May (60 reviewers, don't know the firm) that De Novo's project manager, one John Thacher (also formerly one of "us") gave a pep talk at the beginning of the project that included the order that any time spent going to the bathroom had to be deducted from the time sheet. It may be legal -- without a union or an employment agreement there are no labor rights in this "greatest country in the world" -- but it's disgusting. Can't you just see De Novo putting its project proposal forward: "We will give you people who will bill ONLY for every minute actually spent reviewing. We will even require that they deduct the time they spent peeing."

I'd hate for my IBS to kick in that day. I'd probably lose 30 minutes of pay because I had to go to the bathroom all the time. Wow, if they deduct your time for going to the bathroom, I suppose two 15 minute breaks are out of the question!!!

Guess I'd just have to wear a Depends undergarment and stink everyone out because since I'm 100 grand in debt thanks to law school and didn't get a big firm job, I really couldn't afford to lose 30 minutes of pay.

Some states require a paid half an hour break; I guess New York isn't one of them. If you aren't in a union in New York, New York tends to be very anti-labor.

It's a slap in the face.

They watch every move you make, treat you like a criminal, and micromanage you like there is no tomorrow.

People like Justine Clark should have their urination cycles monitored, not us.

is this the sirius/xm review at simpson thacher?

I don't see this as unusual. Attorneys with billable hours don't bill clients for time when they aren't working (lunch and bathroom are probably not working time, unless the attorney is thinking about the work or doing work concurrently).

Right, like billable hour attorneys stop the clock when they are taking a 30 second piss. The hypocrisy in this profession is too much to take.

If I am going to make it back to my hole in wall apartment in Jersey at a reasonable hour, I guess that means I am going to have to take a dump in my diaper.

Why don't they just attach urinal holes to the review terminals?

I'm on this project and can tell you that John Thacher is such a dork and he is so completely full of it. He keeps saying that he has the "best doc reviewers in the city" on his project. Puh-leeze. He thinks he's so intelligent but he isn't. Instead, he's a hypocritical and delusional windbag. Not a big fan.

Lexolution job ad for an interesting quasi-legal position. Oh, wait! NO JD's! Looks like your "career counselors" are going to keep you clicking forever after all:

"Our client, a major investigative firm with offices in NYC and worldwide, seeks several recent masters graduates in journalism, public policy, forensic psychology or business for Junior Investigator positions. Experienced paralegals with masters degree will also be considered. No JDs, please.

Our client is an investigative team that includes former investigative reporters, federal agents, and prosecutors who represent major law firms and corporations in a variety of fact-gathering assignments."

I just found this blog and you people are really tedious. If you hate your jobs so much, just quit. Find a job outside of NYC or outside of the law or, god forbid, suck it up and work for a few years at a small firm, get some experience and see what moves you can make then. Do something, but get over yourselves. Nobody like bitter whiners. FYI: the people who bash capitalism and scream "racism" because they didn't get the job at S&C that they feel they were entitled to are ridiculous and do a serious disservice to any legitimate beefs the rest of you may have.

Don't listen to Amy! She probably has a cushy position at a law school, or is probably associated with a firm that has been engaged in illegal/unethical behavior and is bitter about being exposed.

You guys are on the right track. The industry from the law schools on up is a den of rats. There is so much corruption and exploitation which has truly reached epic proportions.

Neither. I work at a big firm that's not mentioned anywhere on this site. I don't have an axe to grind here. Just a friendly outsider's perspective.

Thanks for your wise, sage advice. Now, fuck off.

Oh, wise Amy, biglaw biller, Buddha Karma Sutra Soothsayer; please continue to enlighten as to the secrets of the universe. Life (and crapping in a diaper) is suffering, but suffering is the one bond that holds the universe together. Oh, wise Amy, such a true oracle of prophecy.

Do you know for sure that they don't? This is ridiculous. I don't know any billable hour attorneys that bill for time when they aren't working. I'm on the side of temps and others like me who weren't in the top 10% of their class, but I don't support billing clients for time not spent working for them.

The billable hour is one of the most annoying things in the legal profession. I wonder how difficult it would be to come up with flat rates for certain types of services in order to make things easier for everyone.

Contract Attorneys aren't billable hour employees; they are hourly employees. Hourly employees don't receive benefits.

Just read autoadmit. The comments on that site lets us all know that Affirmative Action is still necessary because many law students are racist and will soon join the legal profession. Many argue that there is no need for Affirmative Action because minorities are overexaggerating when it comes to the "imaginary racism" that exists. However, blogs enable the covert racism to manifest itself and now it is overt in a sense but still hides behind the cloak of anonymity. So the next time one of you complains about a woman or minority taking your spot in the firm or at law school, remember all the racist comments you witnessed on that site.

deNovo is the easiest firm in NYC to steal from. If you guys are letting this get in the way of padding hours, then you are fools.

"deNovo is the easiest firm in NYC to steal from."

Other agency troll.

I find De Novo to be one of the better staffing agencies to work for.

I was on this project, and this posting is blatently false. John never made any such statement.

Not John B. Thacher? He hired me at Kelly Legal awhile back and was a really good guy to work for. What happened?
