Legal Sweatshop Award

Who would you nominate for legal sweatshop of the month? Who, while requiring you to bill 80 hours a week, sticks you in an airless hell-hole and cheats you out of overtime? While Tom the Temp and several front-line sources definitely have some candidates in mind, he is more than eager to receive input from his blog-reading audience. tomthetemp@hotmail.com

Dear Tom the Temp,

Thanks for the blog and keep up the entertaining postings! I'm a bit confused though...in Dec. you said you have been in this business for more than 18 months. Your profile says you are 27 years old. So you were 25 when you were laid off from biglaw. So how long were you there before you were downsized? Just curious.

how do they get away with all of this crap? It is simply unbelievable.

Thanks! Without giving my b-day away I can report that I am no longer 27. Did biglaw for 2 years and have been in templand for a 1 yr and a half.

I have enjoyed your blog very much.

I am glad that your blog has not become peppered with "plants". By that I mean, certain people who seem to applaud the whole contract attorney mess.

I am afraid to say that some "plants" have inevitably made it onto this site. Read through some of the comments below. Unfortunately, there are alot of interests out there that don't want certain aspects of the legal industry publicized.

PAUL WEISS beats any sweatshop in the world, including Honduras, Vietnam and China!!
Paul Weiss is sweatshop par excellance.

The first commenter is asking a lot of nosy questions about who you are. What an S.O.B. Is this an agency or Bar Association spy trying to go after you on their witch hunt.

I agree that the worst of the worst sweatshop is Paul Weiss. Funny because they always portray themselves as such a "man of the people" civil rights law firm.

The other worst of the worst has to be VIACOM. The VIACOM job was sheer hell on earth. Sumner Redstone such a nice guy, he is even enemies with his own daughter.
